インドのデリーから約200km離れた地に、磁器の工場が集まる街がある。もくもくと煙突から煙を出す建物がいくつも建ち並ぶ中で、実験用の磁器を専門的に作る1軒の工場に出会った。
この磁器製のプレートやボウルは、デザインを特注して作ってもらったものではない。工場で普段から作られている実験用品の一部だ。
型で形成されているわりに不揃いなのは、釉薬の厚みやかけ方にムラがあるから。60年以上前から変わらぬ技法と機械で作っているため、新品でもアンティークのような佇まいである。
